The Dickies from Los Angeles (formed in 1977 in the San Fernando Valley) are absolute pioneers of US West Coast punk and are widely considered the creators of “bubblegum punk” or “cartoon punk”. While other local L.A. bands like Black Flag or Fear leaned into dark aggression, The Dickies brought frantic speed, slapstick humor, and catchy pop melodies to the scene.
