The Gonads are the musical embodiment of Garry Bushell’s Oi! philosophy: raw, humorous, working-class, but with a satirical edge.
The Gonads and Garry Bushell are inseparable; he is a British journalist, author, TV presenter, and musician best known as one of the key figures of the British street punk and Oi! genres. Bushell coined the term “Oi!” for the working-class punk movement that united punks, skinheads, and street kids. He compiled the groundbreaking compilations *Oi! The Album* (1980), *Strength Thru Oi!*, and *Carry on Oi!!* (both 1981).
The Gonads are a British Oi!/street punk band from Charlton (London) that emerged in 1977/78 from the school band “Pink Tent.” Garry Bushell himself serves as the band’s frontman under the pseudonym “Gal Gonad.” The band is known for its support of the Anti-Nazi League and its humorous lyrics.
